Exploring Vienna by eBike: A Ride Through the Heart of Austria

There’s something special about seeing a city from the seat of a bicycle—and in Vienna, it was the best decision we made. Our August trip landed right in the middle of Europe’s heat wave, but coming from Scottsdale, we were used to the dry heat. Honestly, we embraced it.

We rented electric bikes for our four-day stay and quickly realized it was the perfect way to explore. Vienna has some of the best bike paths I’ve ever seen—clean, organized, and winding through beautiful neighborhoods, riverside parks, and hidden spots you wouldn’t reach by car or tour bus.

One of our favorite adventures? Taking the eBikes on the train to Spitz. Yes, you can take your bikes right onto the train—so easy! From there, we rode through charming little villages along the Danube River, through vineyards and wine country. The views were straight out of a postcard, and the breeze on the bikes made the warm weather feel just right.

Renting eBikes in Europe gives you the freedom to explore beyond the city center. Plus, it’s a great way to stay active without exhausting yourself in the summer heat.

Our home base was the Intercontinental Wien, and while the hotel is a bit dated, it’s still grand. Think dark wood interiors and crystal chandeliers in the bar. They upgraded us to a corner room, which gave us a lot more space (huge bonus in Europe). The location was perfect for hopping on our bikes and starting each day fresh.

We absolutely fell in love with Vienna—clean streets, friendly locals, and so many spots to stop for a quick espresso or glass of wine. I’d go back in a heartbeat.

Listen! If you’re planning on visiting Austria, skip the tour bus and hop on a bike. You’ll see more, feel more and return home with MUCH better stories.
